Matsakis Minute: Illustrations to Animation

For the "Matsakis Minute: Eclipsophobia and Eclipsomania" video, svillo creates two detailed illustrations of eclipse folklores to be later animated.

The process begins with rough thumbnails, sketched in graphite pencil to explore composition and layout.

Once the thumbnails are refined, the next step is to draw each with graphite pencil to keep things simple but textured. After completing the illustrations, they are photographed then carefully edited and exported as PNG files. These files have no background so they can be layered to recreate the illustration but now with the ability to be animated.

A big thanks to Dave Bour with Superdogco bringing these illustrations to life beautifully.
